Arsenal have confirmed that the clubs youngster/Nigerian winger, Alex Iwobi has penned a new long term deal at the Gunners today, Tuesday 6th, after his father suggested he was looking to go out on loan this season.
According to Goal.com, the 19-year-old's father had told media sources that the young winger was looking to acquire a loan move away from the Gunners this season, with a number of lower-league clubs in England thought to be interested in the player who has excelled both at junior level and on the few occasions he's being in the senior team to date, notably in the clubs preseason preparations.
Iwobi is currently on international duty with Nigeria (after agreeing to play for his fatherland notably after underwhelming Liverpool youngster, Jordan Ibe, refused) ahead of matches with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon, but penned the new deal after becoming a regular feature of the Arsenal's development squad.
A statement on the Arsenal website read: "Alex Iwobi has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.
"Everyone at Arsenal would like to congratulate Alex on his new contract and we look forward to his continued progression in the season ahead."
Iwobi's path to the first team is currently blocked by the sensational Alexis (check: Sanchez) but could be in the team so quickly in event of injuries with failure of Arsene Wenger to recruit much needed cover over the window due to a dearth of talent.
"Alex's preferred option at this stage is to go on loan to gain first team experience and come back to Arsenal later on to fight for a place," the 19-year-old's father said.
"Hopefully a loan move will be sorted out by the time Alex comes back from international duties."
We all wish Alex excellence with the Super eagles, his Arsenal career and his future.
